On July 18, 2025 I photographed a Tennessee Warbler in our yard. It was a very brief visit of about 8 seconds and only one photo possible taken. The little bird was in heavy molt and it's identification was discussed widely before confirming as to species. This ebird record was the first July record for TEWA in San Luis Obispo County.
On 8/16 a second TEWA appeared in our yard, this time staying longer to bath and a few more photos were taken. This bird was also in molt and this sighting represents an early record for August for TEWA for SLOCO. The previous August record taken on August. 31, 2024 at Arroyo Grande Creek by J. Stone.
I have done quite a bit of research hoping to age these visiting birds as observed in the molting plumages. I am wondering if today's bird could possibly have been a return of the earlier July individual now with more advanced stage of seasonal plumage. Thoughts?
These photos will be found in my ebird reports and I am also downloading both July and August TEWA photos to my flickr site for review purposes. I will remove them from flickr in a few days. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kaarenp/
