Hi Tweeters,
Those of you to the north of UW might consider stepping onto your porch. At
8:04pm a curlew of some sort flew over Montlake Fill and continued north.
Bill dimensions were perfect for Whimbrel, but the call was a rising
‘kerwee’ repeated every few seconds best matching Long-billed Curlew calls,
and photos appear to show underparts to be buffy and un-streaked, with
faint streaking on the sides of the nape. Apparently juvenile Long-billed
Curlew retains a short bill, not sure for how long after fledging. I’ll
look at my photos and post an ID later, but worst case, you might get a
Whimbrel.
