"There's a bright golden haze on the meadow" could have been our theme song as we gathered at Sims-Jennings Preserve in Lansing for our July 17 Thursday Birding Meetup. We had quite a crowd with 21 of us, including several first timers (who are always very welcome!). The grassland meadow was indeed glorious on this clear and beautiful morning. We loved seeing the bobolink families bopping up and down along with common yellowthroats, song sparrows, indigo buntings (stunning views in the morning light!), goldfinches and more. Some clear sightings of great crested flycatchers was another highlight. Murmurating starlings caught our eye as well. All in all, yet another lovely birdy morning. Thirteen of us enjoyed breakfast at the Eastshore Roadhouse. Next week, we're heading to a new place to give it a try. Join us at 7:00 am to get some "early birding" into your day. Peel off if you need to go to work or another activity, or join us for breakfast/coffee afterward. We would be delighted to have you join us for all or part of the morning! July 24 Thursday Birding Meetup 7:00 am at Margaret's Woods on Stonehouse Road near Upper Treman StatePark. On 327 go west past the Upper Treman entrance, turn south (left) on Hines Road towards Pinecreek Campground, turn left on Woodard Road, turn right on Stonehouse Road (take note of the stone house at the corner), look for the parking area to the right. (You can also follow Google and approach from Millard Hill from the south.)
