Subject: Painted Bunting Found at 8th Location
Piming & Judy Kuo and I did another outing today, 7/18, for our 2025 Painted Bunting Discover Tour. The place for us to check out was the Oak Run subdivision of Olathe. On the way, we were able to re-confirm the existence, first reported on 7/15, of a male bird at the north entrance of the Superior Bowen Asphalt Co/Johnson County Aggregates complex (38.8543257, -94.8579258).
Of the half dozen stops we made, one turned out to be productive. A lone skittish male watched us from a distance. The coordinates are as follows:
38.861663, -94.877823
Two photos, taken at 9:37 and 9:44 a.m., may be viewed here:

The Oak Run subdivision is undergoing expansion. Where we parked to view the male painted bunting was the dead end of a street soon to be extended. A swath of land has been cleared with debris piled along one side. This ideal bird habitat of weeds, brush and trees looks doomed. We feel fortunate to be able to have one last look of this beautiful species here.
