This morning in pleasant temperatures, I walked the bird loop. Crossing Sutherland Wash, I encountered a Regal Horned Lizard. Watched it eat a couple ants before getting photos. This turned into a lizard day with over 40 scurrying across the trail. Birds were sparse, but I did have two viewings of male Varied Buntings. They ducked before I could get the camera on them.
The ride in was a slalom around lizards as well. None on the way out. ID’s five species for certain, and will look up others.
Yesterday, after the rain. Went to Arthur Pack, walked to the 7th hole pond, noted three different sizes of young coots, with the smallest just beyond the red-noggin stage. Totaled six. Cut the walk short as the sun came out and the humidity became oppressive.
9:40 yesterday, as the rain was tapering off, a Lesser Nighthawk coursed overhead.
Two day rain total of 2.03 inches.
