I heard two singing Painted Buntings deep into the mountain bike trail of Fancy Creek State Park east of Randolph, Riley County.
I was walking after a failed trail run attempt lol and heard an unfamiliar song. I pulled up Merlin, which continued to hear painted bunting. I was unable to spot one of the two singing birds, but then pulled up reference songs and got the obvious match.
Habitat seemed appropriate in this location Because it was a clear cut area within an overgrown cedar forest, with younger cedars growing.
