Subject: [sbcobirding] Various SBA shortbird spots
All,

After arriving back in town from Europe, I have been looking at the state of potential areas for migrant shorebirds.

Laguna Blanca - I had high hopes for this location but it is already mostly dried out
Dune Pond at COPR: This has good habitat right now and should be OK for 2-3 weeks or more. No shorebirds right now.
Area K: Dry - no surprise
Ocean Beach: The water level has risen quite a bit here. I think there is slight possibility that the river may blow out again in a few weeks. The configuration of the river mouth this year means that some shorebirds may be closer to the tracks than normal. The only habitat appears to be here. This morning there were some peeps and 5 distant SB Dowitchers. I left by around 8.30 so don't know if Daniel's Reddish Egret arrived at some point.

Regards,
Nick Lethaby
