Yesterday’s birding and prairie flowering trip to former Beaty Prairie in western Benton County yielded a number of pleasant surprises. One that gave me most pleasure was hearing Northern Bobwhites calling from six separate places, mainly in the area of Leonard Ranch X Schoolhouse roads. Overall, good bird activity generally: https://ebird.org/checklist/S258607230 None of once extensive Beaty Prairie is in public ownership, but old Beaty survives in a few spots, mainly rights-of-way along local roads. It is totally blazing with native prairie flora now. I wrote up a guide and suggestions for seeing this. I gave it the name Beaty Prairie Botanical Area, though this designation is just mine.
