Date: 7/9/25 10:00 am From: Rob Fowler via groups.io <migratoriusfwlr...> Subject: [NWCALBIRD] 26 July pelagic
Hi all,
Just wanted to send something out about the upcoming Saturday, 26 July
pelagic trip I have scheduled on the Steller Sunrise. This trip will be 10
hours to give us the potential to spend some time in deep water off the Eel
River Canyon near the edge of the continental shelf.
There's been a lot of amazing seabird records from the month of July for
the rest of Northern California to the south of us (mostly from Monterey to
Sonoma County). Some of the following “Megas” that have shown up in late
July south of Humboldt County have been: Bulwer's Petrel, Chatham,
Salvin's, Light-mantled, Short-tailed, and Wandering Albatrosses! July can
be good for Hawaiian and Cook's Petrels and there's one record of
Stejneger's Petrel for the month from Monterey. Anyways....there's a lot of
possibilities for a trip to be very exciting on this date!
Since this is a 10 hour trip the price will be $200 regular and $175 for
students. I should also note that if you really want to get on this
trip--or any of my boats--but price can be an issue, please send me an
email and we can maybe work something out. I want people to get out on the
ocean with us and help us explore what the pelagic zone off of Humboldt
County has to offer and only people that can afford to pay shouldn't be the
only ones to experience the ocean here.
Ryan Terrill, Aidan Brubaker and myself will be leading.
Please contact me privately to secure one of the available spots!
