I noticed a murrelet swimming in the boat channel leading to Oceanside harbor thismorning. I am reporting it since murrelets are not typically inshore species. The bird was generally far to the north of the accessible jetty, but at one point it swam parallel to and just off the jetty from the "T" east nearly to the actual harbor. Field marks (lack of black wedge on the breast, white chin, white mark in front of the eye) indicate a Scripp'sMurrelet. The bird never allowed a view of its wing linings. I will provide photos with an ebird report later today. Hopefully, some of our pelagic bird experts will weigh in onthe i.d. if they don't actually find the bird.
