Liam repeated, "But, as you note, the aggressive pace of redevelopment in that part of town makes that seem unlikely.”

Yes, unlikely but not impossible. However, SF Rec/Park doesn’t employ a biologist of ecologist so, unfortunately, it’s up to us to let them know what’s going on with wildlife in the city. City managers have a lot of interest groups making requests (dog walkers, pickballers) so WE have to become vocal and not assume that the city knows things that seem obvious to us.

I’m asking that you please send an email to the SF Rec/Park Commission, the Indian Basin project manager, Lauren Dietrich Chavez by email at <lauren.chavez...> (she’s kind of on our side on most issues) and the district Supervisor Walton.

Also in the realm of conservation, state listed Tricolored blackbirds have been seen by Dom at Crocker Amazon Park. I hate lawns but the giant lawn actually is a magnate for blackbirds, flickers, herons, swallows, etc. and is much better for birds than the addition 15 acres of plastic playing fields Rec/Park is proposing.

If someone can survey the park and keep the eBrid list current while we fight the conversion to plastic, please do so. The irrigated, mature trees there are also scheduled for demolition. It’s probably getting late in the season to look for nesting evidence.

If you want to comment on the Crocker Amazon situation, please go to KeepCrockerReal.com

Thanks,
Bob Hall
