I have not posted on a conservation issue in a while, but I feel this is important in light of its national implications on our publicly owned bird habitats and future environmental quality in general. The last 6 months has seen some of the worst assaults on conservation and environmental protection programs in our nation's history, which were previously supported by both Republican and Democratic Administrations. The current budget and tax break for the wealthy bill makes things even worse by defunding/degrading programs that Trump championed in his first administration. Conservation and environmental protection programs are a very small part of the overall federal budget and will not even make a scratch in the federal deficit created largely by social and military spending, but they will degrade programs that protect our natural and historic heritage and quality of life. In the Senate version of the tax bill, besides eliminating tax breaks for renewable energy while keeping fossil fuel tax breaks (unfair) and eliminating funding for basic conservation monitoring, they now want to sell millions of acres of public land despite the opposition of Representative Zinke (Republican Montana) who was Trump's Secretary of the Interior in his first administration and who helped to keep the land sales out of the House passed version of the bill. Please contact our U.S. Senators (see contact info below) and other listed elected officials and ask them to oppose measures in the budget bill that sell public lands and guts funding for the National Park System, biological monitoring and unfairly eliminates tax credits for renewable energy.
