Observation start time: 08:45:00 Observation end time: 15:00:00 Total observation time: 6.25 hours
Official Counter: Daena Ford, Mike Tetlow
Observers: Bridget Watts, Daena Ford, Dale Drexel, Jim Miles, Mike Tetlow, Pat Martin, Tim Willis
Visitors: 3 - Tim Willis, Dale Drexel, Jim Miles
Weather: Summer-like weather with temps in the mid-high 80's F, good SW-WSW winds the entire count. Some hazy blue sky with variable cloud cover throughout the day.
Raptor Observations: Excellent June Broad-winged Hawk flight, with 1,147 tallied. Raptors were certainly on the move prior to the official start time, but volunteer coverage early this morning was not possible. Flight was relatively spread out, but a good majority of the groups were lakeside. Some birds traveled right over us as we watched from the shade of the hickory tree.
Highlight of the day was having 2 MISSISSIPPI KITES! Both were high and glided by fast! The first was spotted high out over the bay giving a little time to scope the bird. The second almost snuck by and traveled on almost the same line, closer to the lake.
Good numbers of Turkey Vultures (263) and Bald Eagles (44), with a smattering of Red-tailed Hawks (8), Osprey (5), and a couple of Northern Harriers and one American Kestrel rounded out the day.
Non-raptor Observations: One Sandhill Crane
Predictions: Cooler and cloudier with afternoon showers and NNW winds will likely not produce much migration. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Daena D. Ford (<dford...>) Braddock Bay information may be found at: http://www.bbrr.org/
