Subject: Painted Bunting at Sikh Temple Again
My wife and I have decided to do a 2025 Painted Bunting Discovery Tour. We intend to find as many Johnson County, Kansas sites as possible frequented by this species-reputed to be the most beautiful bird in North America.
On May 30, we launched our first outing and succeeded in finding a bird in the I-35 Logistics Park in Olathe. Today, 6/2, on our second outing, we re-visited a site where we first discovered a painted bunting a year ago. The venue is the weed field adjacent to the Midwest Sikh Gurudwara in Lenexa (38.945866, -94.831796). It was gratifying to again spot a handsome male. As before, we observed and photographed the bird entirely from inside our vehicle. Two photos taken at 10:12 and 10:19 a.m. may be viewed here:

We hope our birding pals will take time to enjoy this species too.
