6/4 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center, 10am-1PM. mid
tide-receding, overcast/ 65-70F.
Several visitors today from out of town, and first time visitors who loved
our osprey cam.
Our Purple Martin colony is very active, with many flying around and
others setting up housekeeping in the gourds.
Our ospreys are tending to their 3 chicks, as the male brought in a fish
(he probably ate the head) just before 1PM.
The female was eating as well as feeding the 3 active chicks. 4 other
ospreys in the area, some bathing in the marsh.
On the marsh: 9 D.C. Cormorants flew over and then 3 bathing in the marsh,
1 Willet, 1 Ring billed gull and 8 herring gulls, 2 Snowy Egrets and 6
Great egrets, 6 Mute swans, 3 American Black ducks , 11 Canada geese, and 3
Yellow crowned night herons continue.
On the grounds & feeders: 10 Mourning doves, 8 House finches, 18 House
sparrows, 1 Song sparrow, 1 Tree swallow, 2 Cowbirds, 5 Common Grackles,
2 Catbirds, 4 Robins-1 bathing in water fountain, 1 House wren singing,
3 Starlings, 1 Carolina wren singing, 3 Cardinals and 1 Cooper's Hawk
chasing something flew by the window quickly.
