Like Greg, I conducted a BBS route today as well-Severance. With last night's rain I was worried that my first half mile of dirt road would be a problem. However, I used RainDrop app to zoom in on the first stop and see 0.00 inches. Near the end of the route on gravel roads it was .45 inches. https://www.raindrop.farm/rainfall-totals/state/kansas
This is probably the last year I complete this route after 25 years. Today's species count was about average, unofficially 69. No new species to add to the total cumulative breeding list of 107. I was pleased to hear a Grasshopper Sparrow as well as seldom recorded Vesper. Six sparrow species total. But I missed on several warbler species I have had in the past such as Yellow, Kentucky, and N Parula. Also found Loggerhead Shrike, more and more rare here. I was also surprised to find 3 Western Kingbirds. Some between stops species I didn't count was Wild Turkey, Ring-necked Pheasant, and Cedar Waxwing.
I do have a replacement to continue this route, Rob Dooley, and I will most likely assist.
