Subject: Severance BBS
Like Greg, I conducted a BBS route today as well-Severance. With last
night's rain I was worried that my first half mile of dirt road would be a
problem. However, I used RainDrop app to zoom in on the first stop and see
0.00 inches. Near the end of the route on gravel roads it was .45 inches.

This is probably the last year I complete this route after 25 years. Today's
species count was about average, unofficially 69. No new species to add to
the total cumulative breeding list of 107. I was pleased to hear a
Grasshopper Sparrow as well as seldom recorded Vesper. Six sparrow species
total. But I missed on several warbler species I have had in the past such
as Yellow, Kentucky, and N Parula. Also found Loggerhead Shrike, more and
more rare here. I was also surprised to find 3 Western Kingbirds. Some
between stops species I didn't count was Wild Turkey, Ring-necked Pheasant,
and Cedar Waxwing.

I do have a replacement to continue this route, Rob Dooley, and I will most
likely assist.

Thanks,

John Schukman
