A productive morning, despite not getting a particularly early start.
At Lobdell, I was hoping for a Mourning Warbler as I’ve had them there a couple times in the spring. However, I was treated to a brief but clear view of a Connecticut! It popped up after giving a short alarm chip & stayed in view for a couple seconds before dropping out of sight, typical CT behavior. I got a good profile view: complete gray hood and eyering but a somewhat paler appearance overall so I believe it was a female, especially since I never heard it sing. I stuck around the area for a while, but never saw or heard anything more.
A Lincoln’s Sparrow flew up from the trail to a low perch giving great views.
By the time I got to Morris Woods, the wind had really picked up so birding by ear was next to impossible. There wasn’t much activity, but I found one small mixed flock of warblers: couple magnolias, ovenbird & a male Canada along with a few redstarts.
The best find there was a calling Yellow-bellied FC, FOY. Unfortunately I could not spot it through the trees, but I did get a recording. I’ve had them there in the past.
