Greetings All, As we head into the breeding season for birds we are preparing to celebrate a milestone anniversary for Connecticut's longest running community science breeding bird survey. This year will be the 50th Year of the Greenwich-Stamford Summer Bird Count on Saturday & Sunday June 7th & 8th, which similar to Christmas Bird Counts is held in a circular area divided into sectors surveyed by teams across Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, New Canaan as well as parts of Westchester County NY.
The data from these counts has been crucial in observing trends in our breeding bird populations and we welcome all participants who wish to join. Currently there are sectors which also would greatly benefit from the support of additional territory leaders so if anyone is interested please feel free to reply to me here or directly reach out to count compiler Tom Burke at <thomaswardburke...>
Unlike Christmas Bird Count this count will take place over two days, with all day Saturday June 7th and until 2 pm on Sunday June 8th being part of the count period. At 2 pm Sunday June 8th we will hold our compilation at the Greenwich Audubon Center, weather permitting outside on the Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch Lawn.
Please feel free to reach out if you are interested in joining and our sincere thanks! -Ryan MacLean *Greenwich Audubon Center*
