Tonight I received the following email from David Cimprich, President of the Inland Bird Banding Association. I've reproduced it below. I hope you will register for this event, and share this information with all those who support bird banding.
*Banding is in serious trouble in the US. The Eastern Ecological Services Office, of which the Bird Banding Lab is a part, is on the DOGE chopping block. There is a strong possibility that the lab may be totally eliminated soon. Now is the time to contact your representatives in congress to voice opposition to this. Imagine what it would be like if the BBL was suddenly gone. The implications boggle the mind.*
*A virtual rally has been organized in support of the Ecological Services Office and the BBL by a group of conservation organizations for Thursday 22 May at 1:00 Eastern time. Kenn Kaufman and Drew Lanham will be among the featured speakers. Here is a link to register for it:*
*Even if you cannot attend the rally, I suggest that you register anyway and get everyone you know to register. The number of people registered shows the level of opposition to what DOGE is trying to do.*
If you have questions, please respond to me off-list. Thank you.
