This morning I walked a portion of Alisal Road from Nojoqui Park to the top of the rise where the road was washed out several years ago. It was a very peasant walk with lots of activity for expected birds but nothing unusual sighted.
Bullock's Orioles were seen or heard up and down the road and in the Park, as were several Yellow Warblers. Highlights were a single Lazuli Bunting near the culvert at road marker 34 (all the white road markers have been numbered clearly). In the same vicinity I heard the only Warbling Vireo of the day. Near the washout spot, I caught a quick glimpse of a male Phainopepla flying north and found two Western Kingbirds (a pair?) in a sycamore tree near-by.
In and around the park (and even partly up the road into the riparian forest), the Purple Martins were putting on a good show. There also were several Violet-green Swallows above the riparian area, making for some nice comparisons in flight with the Martins.
I was listening hopefully for a Northern Parula along this route, but without success.
