I don't know if it's necessary, but I, too, was concerned about nectar straight from the fridge. I take it out and set it next to my brewing coffee pot so it's at room temperature by the time I'm caffeinated and ready to go out to the feeders. :) I guess if it's too cold they are wise enough not to drink it.
