A short, rewarding loop hike through Grays Crossing in Malta NY kicked off with a Baltimore Oriole in the parking lot. The trail through the meadow featured Common Yellowthroats and a Yellow Warbler, along with a Kestrel flyover.
Dark, cloudy skies dominated the first hour, but as the sun began poking through in patches, the conditions brightened. Near the Kayaderosseras Creek, close to the parking area, highlights included incredible looks at a Magnolia Warbler and a Blue-winged Warbler.
Also nearby was a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, sharing the scene with a busy group of 7–10 Cedar Waxwings.
A simple, easy hike that turned into a very rewarding morning.
