Red-masked parakeets, which are a sub-species of Red Amazon's are well- established in San Francisco, a large population. Is it possible that it made it across the Bay?Rosemary Johnson Hercules Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone -------- Original message --------From: "Fred Werner via groups.io" <sustainablefred...> Date: 5/18/25 8:39 PM (GMT-08:00) To: <dominikmosur...> Cc: <chriswaterman555...>, <EBB-Sightings...> Subject: Re: [EBB-Sightings] Mystery parrot in Alameda Robust body, short tail, and overall green color suggest it's an Amazona parrot. Several species with red foreheads are kept / bred / sold in the pet trade. A Red-crowned Amazon was spotted in San Lorenzo a year ago.Check out this list on wikipedia or click here for Tucuman Amazon on eBird and then click on "Red-spectacled Amazon" in the upper right (and keep clicking on that upper-right option) to scroll through other possibilities to see if any one species matches more closely with other features you may have noticed.- FredOn Sun, May 18, 2025 at 8:33 PM Dominik Mosur via groups.io <dominikmosur...> wrote:Might be a Red-crowned Amazon in which case probably an escapee. They have an established population in SoCal but not up here.
