I only had an hour at Denison this morning b/c one of my kitties was due for her annual checkup. It was fairly quiet & chilly but I found a singing Wilson’s Warbler & got good looks at it. Merlin first ID’d the Wilson’s as a Nashville but then Wilson’s popped up shortly after with Nashville not listed again.
Also found a silent N Waterthrush (in the same pond edge area where I’ve seen or heard them a couple other times this season). It had dark, heavy streaking that extended towards the tail, narrow white supercilium & typical tail/rear body bobbing.
As I was leaving, a chat vocalized then popped up for nice views.
After I was back from the vet, I went to morris woods & found a decent number of birds including 10 warbler species. There was even a magic oak tree that had a number of warbler species in it, including a lovely female Bay-breasted—the best looks I’ve had at this species all spring. Other species in the same tree were BT Green, B&W, Blackburnian, and redstart. It was nice to have to sort thru a mixed group to ID species—hasn’t happened much this spring. Redstarts were the most numerous. I spotted a mix of immature and adult males as well as a couple females.
A real treat was a Prothonotary which I heard singing, then it perched up across the pond low to the water giving lovely views. I heard it again later, but couldn’t spot it. Pretty sure this is a first for Morris Woods. I heard a Canada singing, but it was not anywhere close to the trail. A flock of 8-10 Cedar Waxwings flew over calling.
