Subject: [sbcobirding] Atascadero Creek May 19
I walked along the sections of the Creek between Patterson Avenue and Ward Drive and found a nice assortment of species there today.  The stars of the morning were Cedar Waxings feeding in a large flock on the berries of the Myoporum bushes along the north side of the bikeway.  There must have been at least 50 birds in there, perhaps even more based on the size of the flock as it broke into smaller numbers and flew up and down the bushes.  I ran into Ben Byerly who bikes this route regularly and he told me this has been going on for at least a week.
Other birds present included a good number of  Common Yellowthroats, at least 2 Yellow Warblers, 2 Wilson's Warblers, a Chestnut-backed Chickadee, and a Warbling Vireo.  There were at least 5 Black-headed Grosbeaks heard or seen along this route as well.
