From Baltimore, MD, I was having the same experience with my 3 hummingbird feeders, until a female just showed up. My son in Savannah has had only had a female at his feeder.

It seems overall that the numbers are down this spring for hummingbirds.

The flight across the Gulf of Mexico is always a perilous one. I wonder if some migrants were caught in some difficult winds and didn’t make it.
The problem could have occurred last fall when the hummers were leaving from the US gulf states took off for the Yucatán peninsula; or this spring when the birds left from the Yucatán.

I wonder if males migrate in male groups earlier than females.
Does anyone know about whether:
1. Males migrate in their own groups and females in theirs, and
2. If so, do males migrate earlier than females.

Good birding!
