Good evening. I wanted to let everyone know that Steve Sanford of Mercer County passed away a few months ago. Sadly, there was no funeral, memorial, or obituary. I have so many fond memories birding with Steve. He was a very kind and patient man who taught me many things about birds: exact locations where to find Yellow-throated Warblers and Cerulean Warblers, that an Indigo Bunting says "*fire fire where where over here over here put it out put it out*", & that a Catbird makes a sound like a bird is being electrocuted (lol). We went on many excursions and field trips to find Upland Sandpipers, Piping Plovers, Prairie Warblers, Clay-colored Sparrows, and more.
I hope some of you also have good memories of Steve and will remember him on your birding trips. Feel free to share your stories with me if you have any. We're trying to plan some sort of memorial, so let me know if you'd like to be kept in the loop.
