Subject: Fayetteville birding
Spent the morning at Wilson Springs. My husband bikes and I birdwatch while
I wait for him to be done. Had around 30 bird species there. There was
nothing unusual. But I did meet two fellow birders on the trail. Two I’d
never met before. Amy was down from Joplin. Her daughter was on a softball
team practicing in Tontitown. Amy decided birding in the area was better
than sitting six hours at practice. I recommended Mt. Kessler and Woolsey
to her. I also met Mignonne Scarborough for the first time. I’d seen her on
facebook’s Arkansas Birder’s page. We all some nice conversation.

Then I went to see a young man originally from Fort Smith who works at Phat
Tire near the mall. He suggested I check out the bike trail and woods
behind the store. So I did, and am I glad I did. I had a Willow Flycatcher
and great looks at a male Magnolia Warbler. Could kick myself for not
having my camera. Behind the store runs a very wet area with a mix of
hardwoods and Cyprus trees. There were signs on the trees that said Steele
Crossing Uptown District. Perfect stretch of trees for migrating birds.
It was great day to be out.
