This morning, May 16, 2025, we had a passable fallout of migrant birds in our yard. Represented were the usual suspects with one exception for this yard for this time of year. It has been one of the saddest years for migration in this yard in the fifty years we've lived here and in the twenty years since planting the native plant garden on the vacant lot. I believe Jon Feenstra used the word dismal earlier in the week and that would pretty much describe this migratory season. However, the Hooded Warbler that appeared twice today was only the second one in 50 years that we saw and now report at our house and in our neighborhood here in the SW quadrant of Downey. Amazingly it was in the Vacant Lot Garden, not the backyard. Robert has put up the field cams in case this brillant adult male decides to stay overnight and show himself again
