Now I know why they call it Wildcat Canyon. I was birding a side trail on the east side of Rifle Range Road Trail, enjoying a fantastic concert by the Black-Headed Grosbeaks, when a Bobcat decided to block the pathway ahead of me (around 10:30AM). I simply retreated slowly, and it did not follow. I went on to listen to the Lazuli Buntings singing from the loop up Mezue Trail and down Leonard’s Trail, nice and calming. Others reported Grasshopper Sparrows along that loop earlier this morning.
