Hello Birders,
This morning's Santa Cruz Bird Club walk at Brookwood Drive (southeast Delaveaga) began with a high marine layer, which fortunately yielded to sun and breezy conditions mid-morning. The birdsong commenced in earnest with the sunlight. I was so happy to hear the Swainson's Thrush, Black-headed Grosbeak, and Warbling Vireo singing. There was a near dearth of Western Flycatchers. Hopefully, they are just late! Juncos abound there; one active nest and one nest in the building process were easy to find. Other confirmed nests/breeding activity included Violet-green Swallow, Bewick's Wren, American Robin, Oak Titmouse, Pygmy Nuthatch, Acorn Woodpecker, Hutton's Vireo, Spotted Towhee, Wislon's Warbler, Hairy Woodpecker, Allen's Hummingbird, and Olive-sided Flycatcher. The Black-headed Grosbeaks and Swainson's Thrushes were being uncooperative for viewing, but this is a great area to find breeding activity.
