Yesterday I went to Big Bend Point, part of Moreau Lake State Park. Arriving at 7AM, I was met by a cacophony of bird song. The best sighting was a Canada warbler singing in full view above some bushes, about 1/3 of a mile in from the parking lot, just past a cut off for a wooden building with a green roof. Other warblers included Magnolia, Bay-breasted, Tennessee, Black & White, Yellow, Pine, Redstart, many Prairies, and a never-ending supply of both Chestnut-sided and Common Yellowthroats. There were multiple Scarlet Tanagers, Orioles, Indigo Buntings, and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks. The grosbeaks were the most numerous and visible. There were also several kingbirds and great-crested flycatchers. I totaled 58 species. This property is on a beautiful piece of land with an easy to walk trail going through shrubby areas, wetlands, and forest. Part of the trail is along the Hudson River with lovely views. The first half mile is probably the most dense area in terms of bird activity.
