Subject: Northern COMO Bewick's Wren
Hi all,

Some folks have all the luck. I seem to be very lucky at spotting Bewick's Wrens...

Monday morning, Monday afternoon, and again Tuesday morning, I observed a BEWICK'S WREN at my son's daycare in northeastern Columbia. I heard what I thought was a partial BEWR song on Monday morning, but I could not locate the bird beyond general direction and both a Carolina Wren and House Wren began calling in response, quieting the other bird. Merlin recorded the other two wrens, the usual suspects Northern Cardinal, American Robin, House Sparrows, and what it thought was a White-crowned Sparrow, but nothing else of note. Coming back Monday afternoon, I heard the song again and stayed long enough to locate it. Thankfully, the bird continued singing and I found it high on a powerline, easily recognizable by its white breast, drab brown back/wings, and undertail striping.

I asked the daycare manager/director if it would be okay to share the observation with the birding community, and she said yes. She just asked that if anyone who is not a parent decides to come out to look for the bird that they call ahead to let her know. They have security cameras all over the facility and keep a good eye on what's going on outside. You can reach out to me directly if you want the location to go try and spot the bird. I won't post it publicly as this is a childcare facility.

Cheers and good birding,
