Hey Thursday Birders,
Let’s head out to Vischer’s Ferry this Thursday - I know there was just a field trip there recently, but I’d love to go because the diversity and abundance of birds there right now is just incredible. Warblers have been showing up in force—yellow warblers, common yellowthroats, gnat catchers, flycatchers, grosbeaks, orioles, wood thrushes, brown thrashers—and even a least bittern has been calling. I also spotted a solitary sandpiper recently. Things are active, lively, and changing by the day. Even the parking lot birding has been surprisingly rich, with a great variety of species right from the start.
While the area has seen some flooding, most trails—especially the grassy field paths—are in good shape as of today. You might still want boots, but the water has largely receded, and any remaining wet spots are easy to manage.
Let’s plan to meet at 8:00 AM sharp at the Whipple Bridge entrance. I’ll be there by 7:30 if anyone wants to start a little earlier at the parking lot area.
If you have any other ideas or suggestions, definitely feel free to share—I’m totally open! Just thought I’d go with Vischer’s since it’s been so active and rewarding lately.
Looking forward to getting out there with you all,
David 🐦
