Never before have I reached the one hundred species mark for this place so early in the season. And the bird that allowed me to do it was one of my favorite warblers-the Bay-breasted. The bird was all the way down the dirt path well beyond the set of stairs, all the way to the old, rusty, spiked fence and beyond-in that large oak that partially overhangs the three decker property. I patiently waited for about fifteen minutes. The bird was singing constantly. Finally, I saw its beautiful features I birded from 6:00-10:00:
Least Flycatcher 1 Yellow-throated Vireo 1 hanging around in the upper section of the orchard Red-eyed Vireo 2 Blue-headed Vireo 1+ Fish Crow x Hermit Thrush 2 Veery 1 catharus sp. 1 singing; Bay-breasted Warbler 1 Wilson's Warbler 2 Blackpoll Warbler 2 American Redstart 4 Nashville Warbler 1 Northern Parula 4+ Black-throated Green Warbler 3 Black-throated Blue Warbler 3 Prairie Warbler 1presumably arrived late during my visit; what amazing vocals!!! Chestnut-sided Warbler 1 Iroquois Woods Common Yellowthroat 4 Ovenbird 2 Magnolia Warbler 4 Yellow-rumped Warbler 1+ White-throated Sparrow 7 Scarlet Tanager 1 adult female Rose-breasted Grosbeak 1 Baltimore Oriole 2 nest coming right along!!
