Subject: Burcham: Monday
It was a near perfect mild early morning along the Kaw. There was no or little breeze. I listed 32 species on the walk. First time in weeks I did not hear Tanagers & I listed only 2 Swainson's Thrushes. I did not hear any of the later empids don't appear to have arrived. Alder Flycatchers are usually numerous and easy to hear/. No Western Kingbirds yet and only one Eastern Kingbird, and no Acadian Flycatchers.

The most interesting observation today were hundreds maybe a thousand or more Cedar Waxwings working especially in the south half of the woods mostly in the middle and upper stories. Almost every smaller bird I got my glasses on was a Cedar Waxwings. They were flycatching and flitting around - they were impossible to count. As they moved the sun would illuminate different facets of their elegantly colored plumage - always fun to see.

Had a few FOS species for Burcham
Wood Thrush - 2
YB Cuckoo - 2 or 3 calling
Killdeer - 1

A few other birds
Yellow Warbler - 1
Blackpoll - 1 silent mate near the trailhead
Gray Catbird-1 catcall
Orchard Oriole -1 singing
Fish Crow-1
