Subject: 4 nightjars and thick Henslows at Konza
My wife and I did a dusk hike at the Konza nature trail outside Manhattan on Sunday, May 11.

I had a chatty Summer Tanager about a quarter mile in and as we “went above tree line” the Henslow’s Sparrows were what I would define as “thick.” I honestly couldn’t believe it. They were singing all around me.

We continued on the trail and by the time we were done, we had all four nightjars. The Chuck-wills-widows were the easiest to hear but hardest to come by. The whippoorwills always seemed to be beyond the hill in a couple locations. The poorwills were the most plentiful throughout the trail of the harder to find nightjars. The common nighthawks were always present.

Absolutely beautiful evening. We even saw the ISS go over! It was very bright!
