In the more northeasterly portion of the state, near Payson, and in the Tonto National Forest, we have had at least a dozen Black-headed Grosbeaks (male and female) in our yard, the past few days, just loving our suet feeders.Reminds me of the invasion of Evening Grosbeaks that we (and orhers) had, I think it was during the winter of 2023.Richard Kaiser -------- Original message --------From: "Robert Hunt(via aznmbirds Mailing List)" <aznmbirds...> Date: 5/11/25 7:54 AM (GMT-07:00) To: Olga Harbour <oharbour...>, Marcia Lincoln <boahiss...>, Diane Drobka <sunny1az...> Cc: AZNM Birds <aznmbirds...> Subject: Re: [AZNMbirds] SE AZ Yard bird (not a member of the band) I have three females and two males visiting my feeders in Prescott Valley near the redtail district on Hwy 69. It gives me joy to watch them boss the House Sparrows around.Rob Hunt, Ph.D."Whatever you do will seem insignificant, but it is very important that you do it." (Mahatma Gandhi)

They are everywhere in AZ this year, a good year for them but the dry summer and winter mean not much seed, so they are seeking out feeders. I had 6 at my feeder this morning, I usually see 1 or 2 at the most.. People in Portal are reporting 11 and 14 at a time!MarciaOn Sat, May 10, 2025 at 11:04 AM Olga Harbour <oharbour...> wrote:Hi folks, This morning while out back cleaning bird feeders, a beautiful male Black-headed Grosbeak perched briefly in a mesquite.
