Date: 5/11/25 7:25 am From: David Govatski <david.govatski...> Subject: [NHBirds] Temporary Closure of a Pondicherry Access Trail from May 12-15
Birders wanting to visit Cherry Pond at the Pondicherry NWR in Jefferson and Whitefield will need to avoid using the trail from 289 Airport Rd in Whitefield and instead use the trail from the trailhead at 794 Meadows Rd in Jefferson. The reason for the temporary closure is that Eversource is installing new power lines on the transmission corridor that goes through the refuge. You don’t want to endanger yourself or the line crews working on this important upgrade to the electrical grid in Coos County.
The trailhead on 794 Meadows Rd in Jefferson has space for about ten cars. From here it is 2.4 miles along the flat Presidential Range Rail Trail to Cherry Pond. The birding habitat is even better than the 1.6 mile rail trail from Airport Rd.
The work is expected to be done by next Friday. I will post an update about access for next weekend as soon as I hear about it.
Thank you for your cooperation and happy birding. Let me know off line if you have any questions.
