Subject: [CT Birds] Saw-whet Stratford
5/10 Stratford - Around sunrise my wife, Linda, heard the distinctive spaced tooting of a Northern Saw-whet Owl outside the bedroom window. She said it tooted about a dozen times. Unfortunately I had left home shortly before to go birding.
The bird must have been a very late migrant whose hormones caused it to sing at dawn. I searched our hemlock hedge and other trees for it when I returned home. We did not hear it call last evening.
