Good afternoon, On Wednesday, Dan Bloch and myself guided 12 bright-eyed birders on the Bay Trail near the Sunnyvale WPCP. I might add that in this group of 12 birders with most birding for about 5 years or less, 10 had ebird accounts! With Barn and Cliff Swallows overhead the day was very nice and clear with just enough breeze when we were greeted by a Red-tailed Hawk digesting on a street light. Along Guadalupe Slough House Wrens were plainly seen singing at the top of their lungs providing everyone with great views as a Green Heron calmly cruised by us. Further along the trail Lesser Goldfinches, Common Yellowthroats, Black Phoebes, more Marsh Wrens, and male Anna's Hummingbirds serenaded us with their melodious songs or played a dangerous game of chase. Long/Short-billed Dowitchers snoozed with Black-necked Stilts and Forster's Terns resting on the big pipe going across to West Pond. In the slough Northern Shovelers, Ruddy Ducks, along with Mallards were seen. Discussion ensued about "Is it a Crow or a Raven?" I casually mentioned that I personally would like to see a Bald Eagle that day. And, wouldn't you know a nice young birder, a good candidate for Young Birders Club, pointed to the sky and said "Osprey!" Everyone got on the bird and saw it well! I gave up on the Bald Eagle and was happy with an Osprey. At Pond A4 Snowy Egrets and a Great Blue Heron were seen while a Green Heron perched in a dead low tree with its back to us. Thank you as always to Dan for keeping the eBird list which is here for you to look over https://ebird.org/checklist/S235209375 Tweet, tweet, Vicki S-Y
