The bird walk at Ft. Harrison State Park, Indianapolis turned up 67 species on April 27th. Highlights included GREEN HERON, OSPREY, BROAD-WINGED HAWK, EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, PURPLE FINCH, ORCHARD ORIOLE, and 13 warbler species during the walk, including ORANGE-CROWNED, CERULEAN and PRAIRIE, and a GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, seen shortly before the walk began to make 14 species in total.
A male Orange-crowned Warbler that has lingered for multiple days was cooperative with everyone getting good views. Other bird providing particularly good views included an adult Broad-winged Hawk, Osprey, and Green Heron. Conversely, a number of species were heard-only. The complete list is below.
There will be a bird walk each Sunday in May at Ft. Harrison. Meet at 8am in the NE corner of Delaware Lake parking lot.
