Subject: [SJBirds] Kiln Canyon Trip Report
The San Joaquin Audubon annual trip to Kiln Canyon was a perfect day with 13 of us joining Ranger Matt up the hill to view the lovely flora and fauna.  The Black sage was blooming splendidly but the hummingbirds were reduced in numbers.  That said, we did have a Calliope, a few Rufous, and many Anna's hummingbirds in the canyon but it wasn't like it used to be considering the flowers were just about perfect for them.  We made up for the loss of hummingbirds with the uptick in numbers of Rufous-crowned sparrows and California thrashers, they seem to be doing well in the canyon.  We didn't find any eagles or roadrunners but we did find some lizards and snakes!  We had on Gopher snake, one Garter snake, and one Rattlesnake that Rene heard before he found moving through the grass.  All in all, a pretty great day.  If interested in the bird list and pics, the trip report can be found here https://ebird.org/tripreport/349798
Thanks,Kasey
