4/9 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center, 10am-1PM. High tide-receding, sunny, 37-45F. Beautiful morning- Very busy at the coastal center this morning, with class visits as well as many individual visitors. On the marsh: Our ospreys were busy arranging the nest, male brought in a fish, both ospreys on the nest and then resting on the marsh grass under the platform. Ducks & waterfowl were spread throughout the marsh at high tide including 16 American Black ducks, 42 Gadwall, 7 Red breasted mergansers (2 males displaying), 7 Mute swans, 14 Bufflehead, 10 Green winged teal, 6 American Wigeon, many Brant and some Canada Geese. 3 Yellowlegs showed up on the marsh edge around 1PM. On the grounds & feeders: 8 Mourning doves, 12 House sparrows, 6 Song sparrows, 6 House finches, 1 Northern Mockingbird, 4 Northern Cardinals, 3 Chickadees, 2 Tufted Titmice, 1 White breasted nuthatch working the tree trunk, 4 American robins and 12 Common grackles.
