Subject: [cayugabirds-l] Tree swallows So. of Aurora
10:50 a.m.  .. Daug, Becky called from the No. end of Lake Rd. checking on ospreys. Hundreds of tree swallows were in the air, fighting the very strong winds & whiteout of fine snow coming off Cayuga Lake .... as was an osprey trying to settle unsuccessfully on a platform at the top of the hill.
Some swallows were pecking at dirt on the road & while some were just sitting as if exhausted, others were actually lying on the road.   Don't  know how successful she was in attempts to take pix with her phone. Anyone ever hear of such action? When I was on Cape Cod (where John was stationed for the summer) during hurricane Carol in 1954 the wind & waves were ferocious.  Gulls were fighting the winds trying to stay aloft to go somewhere ... only to fall exhausted into the crashing waters, a never forgotten memory of 3 Massachusetts hurricanes (Carol, Edna & Hazel) in 6 wks..
