Birding rarely makes it into the popular media, so I enjoy it when it happens. I stumbled on a Netflix series called "The Residence," which is a comedy whodunit set in the White House. The main detective is a birder, so of course she takes the opportunity to bird the White House grounds while solving the crime. Each of the eight episodes features at least one birding event or other reference, so we are treated to the Giant Antpitta and the Yellow-throated Longclaw, among others.
In Episode 1 I thought the writers knew only enough about birding to be dangerous, making reference to "Purple Grackle," rather than Common Grackle, but I learned from Sibley that the Atlantic variant is indeed called Purple Grackle! To their credit, they even got the Giant Antpitta sound correct. Someone knew what they were doing.
I enjoyed the movie and was delighted with the bird references. Give it a try.
