Observation start time: 09:45:00 Observation end time: 14:00:00 Total observation time: 4.25 hours
Official Counter: Andy Dickson
Observers:
Weather: Overnight rain moved through by 9AM leaving mostly cloudy skies, cold temperatures and light onshore winds from the NNW.
Raptor Observations: Only one osprey and 8 TVs came through on a migratory flight path along the top of the escarpment. Several TVs meandered around the area throughout the count.
Non-raptor Observations: I spotted on the distant horizon my first commercial shipping vessel of the season making its way west on the now ice-free Lake Erie, presumably having just cleared the newly opened Welland ONT Canal. With nearly no migrating raptors in the air, it was hard not to contemplate our well-mannered neighbors to the north, the longest unprotected border in the world and our rapidly changing economic relationship.
Predictions: Southwesterly wind and afternoon rain might bring a flight. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Andy Dickson (<adickson3...>) Ripley Hawk Watch information may be found at: www.facebook.com/groups/3193820734258889/
