Observation start time: 09:00:00 Observation end time: 14:30:00 Total observation time: 5.5 hours
Official Counter: Don Dixon
Observers: Ben Neiman, Christopher Hollister, Tom Riley
Visitors: I was graced by Tom Reilly during the first hour or so of the count. Ben Neiman showed up a little after 10am and stayed for the remainder of the count helping out with spotting. Chris Hollister stopped in as well for the last two hours of the count to lend another pair of eyes. It was nice to have some help scoping the skies along with the great conversations. I truly appreciated it.
Weather: Cold brisk morning to start the count with a temperature of 2 degrees Celsius. Winds started out of the WNW and held a NW direction for all of the count. Temperatures rose to 7 degrees Celsius during the last hour of the count. It was mostly cloudy till the last half hour or so when the Sun broke through and the skies began to clear.
Raptor Observations: Despite the NW winds we had 6 different raptor species for the day. Turkey Vultures were the predominant raptor, while a few Bald Eagles, Red-tailed Hawks, along with a single Red-shouldered, Osprey, and an American Kestrel flew by as well.
Non-raptor Observations: The Red-headed Woodpecker is still calling from section K in the stand of trees bordering the pond. I had two Eastern Meadowlarks singing at the beginning of the count along the tree line of the main entrance. A Common Raven was chased over head by an American Crow. The pond was empty today with a lone Kingfisher patrolling it.
Predictions: Tomorrow, Monday April 7th shows a high of 47 degrees Fahrenheit (8 Celsius) with winds 10-20mph SSW. Mostly sunshine with some passing clouds. Flow of raptors should be greater than today. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Don Dixon (<donald.dixon...>)
