Subject: The Raven
With apologies to Poe.

Once upon a midnight dreary,

while I pondered weak and weary,

"Over a lifetime of effort and hope, whilst someone was ripping down
Nature's door"

Eagerly I wished the morrow; -

vainly I sought to borrow

From my books

" of science and knowledge"

surcease of sorrow - sorrow

for the lost " progress and

momentum"

For the rare and radiant maiden

"Mother earth"

And the silken, sad, uncertain
tearing of

"Of each protective curtain"

Filled me with terrors never felt before.

Not the least obeisance made he;

Not a minute stopped or stayed he.

But with the mein of lord..., perched above my chamber door, was a raven

By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore, tell me what thy
name is!

Quote the Raven, 'Nevermore'.

Caught from some unhappy master whom unmercifal Disaster followed fast and
followed faster...

till the dirges of our hope that melancholy burden bore

Of 'Never -nevermore'.

Take thy beak from out of my heart...
Leave no black plume as a token of that lie

thy soul hath spoken!

And my soul from out that shadow

shall be lifted - nevermore.
