Subject: [CT Birds] Fw: Two things - buy Organic Peanut Butter!

Just saying, there is plenty of "natural" peanut butter out there (just peanuts in ingredients) that is not "organic." Teddy, for one, and Trader Joe's for another. For those who can't afford the organic.Christina Watkins/Oxford

Ed - and everybody else who serves peanut butter to birds (mixed with seeds, cornmeal, lard etc.) - you should read the ingredients on any peanut butter - all the Jifs, Skippies etc. contain of sugar, molasses and other ingredients which might well kill hatchlings.  Buy only organic  - which contain only peanuts and salt.  Costs a bit more but shouldn't kill them!

First one, tonight was the first time in 21 years that I have been here that I've seen a pair of wood ducks flying from tree looking for nesting spots pretty cool. I have had them behind the house many springs but never looking for nesting spots.  2nd one, is it too early for bluebirds to be nesting? I have 2 bluebirds coming to my feeders which is late here they like the mealworms, fruit and nut mix, but also the peanut butter which I have read can kill hatchlings which I do not want.  Any answers would be appreciated contact me personally as to not clutter ct birds unless you think it is useful info for others.Ed Bailey Monroe
